Texas Center Publishes Bill of Rights for Truck Crash Victims

by admin in Auto Accidents

As experienced Houston Truck Accident Attorneys, we see many unequal crashes on the roads between heavy trucks and other vehicles such as cars or motorcycles. Some of the results are horrifying.

With trucking traffic ever increasing on Texas’ major interstates and highways, accidents involving 18 wheelers and commercial trucks are increasing.

Big rig crashes can often be deadly because of the weights of the vehicles involved and the substances they may be carrying.
On March, 27, 2012 a tanker truck exploded near Austin, Texas, killing the driver, after it was hit by another vehicle. The fiery wreck also injured two occupants of a car.
These kinds of accidents are preventable and while truck drivers need a license to drive 18 wheelers, that doesn’t stop driver error being to blame for many injuries and deaths. In some cases tired truck drivers have fallen asleep at the wheel, or taken inappropriate medication, although new national rules are being brought in relating to medical certification for truck drivers.

A rise in accidents involving 18 wheelers is leading some counties to restrict trucks on parts of their highways. Later this year it is likely that 18-wheelers will be required by law to avoid the left lane of the highway, except to pass, on three-lane stretches of U.S. 77/83, U.S. 83 and U.S. 281 in Cameron and Hidalgo counties, the Monitor reported.

Due to the ongoing catalogue of deaths caused by big rigs, the Texas-based Semi Truck Accident Victims Center has just published a Bill of Rights to assist victims, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The center is part of the consumer group America’s Watchdog.  Its Bill of Rights is available in all 50 states.

The center points out about 170,000 people are injured every year in accidents involving trucks.

You can view the new Bill of Rights as it appears here.
